The new season is just weeks away and there has been plenty going on at Sphinx Drive. Here is a summary of events around the club over the last couple of weeks.

Two important additions to the squad as Nic Evangelinos and Lewis McBride committed themselves to the club for the 2015/16 season. Regulars to Sphinx Drive will be familiar with Evangelinos as his few appearances for Coventry Sphinx saw him bag a number of goals. The striker has been a reliable performer for the club and it’s good to see him commit to us for next season. Lewis McBride is a midfielder who joins us from Rugby Town and securing his services despite interest from a number of higher ranked clubs is a real coup for the club. The squad is looking good already and there is still time to add to it further.

The players came back in for pre season training on June 27th and while there has been some of the expected running there has been a lot of ball work too. The Youth team have been training with the First team and the players appear to be enjoying the sessions put on for them by the coaching staff. The new players appear to have settled in well and they are already having a good influence on the younger members of the squad. Even after long and hard sessions, a number of players have stayed on to practice specific parts of their own game which has been very pleasing to see.

An addition to the pre season friendly schedule with a visit to neighbours Coventry Copsewood pencilled in for Saturday August 1st (1.30pm kick off). We are just a couple of days away from our first friendly at Sphinx Drive with the visit of Racing Club Warwick on Tuesday July 7th (6.30pm kick off). Entry is FREE for all and will be played on the pitch behind the main stand so why not come down and catch a glimpse of the new players, check out the new club crests that have been put up around the ground and most importantly watch some football!

After last seasons league winning campaign the Youth Team have been promoted and placed in the Midland Floodlit League Southern Premier Division. The  teams in that league are as follows:

Coventry Sphinx

Kidderminster Harriers

Pilkington XXX

Redditch United

Rugby Town

Solihull Moors

I’m delighted to see Chris Sharp join us as a Sports Therapist for valuable experience that will contribute to his course he is on at Coventry University. Chris has already worked at Heather St Johns and is a well known face on the ground hopping scene. His enthusiasm for the role is already clear, I’m confident he will be a valued member of the team and I’m sure he’s going to thoroughly enjoy his time with Coventry Sphinx. Welcome aboard Chris!
